NEET 2017 – Exam Pattern

HimBuds.com brings the NEET 2017 – Exam pattern specially prepared for our readers by the expert academician panel at BYJU’s.

NEET 2017 - Exam PatternNational Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a one tier national level medical entrance exam conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education).  It is the replacement of previously held All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT). As per Hon. Supreme Court of India, admissions in government or private medical colleges for MBBS and BDS courses in India will be solely based on the NEET score. Students who aspire for MBBS or BDS courses in India have to qualify NEET for the entrance in various reputed medical colleges in the country. All other state levels and college level entrance exams are counted as invalid. However, admissions in AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) and JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research) will be based on their own entrance exams.

NEET 2017

NEET 2017 is expected to be conducted in the month of May 2017 and the results will be declared by the first week of June, tentatively. Candidates who are interested may apply for NEET 2017 from the first week of December 2016 by filling the application form available on the official website of NEET 2017.

NEET Exam Pattern

Exam pattern for NEET 2017 is same as AIPMT. NEET 2017 paper will consist of MCQs (Multiple Choice questions) with one correct answer. The exam will be conducted in offline mode on an OMR sheet. Question papers will be available in both English and Hindi languages. The question paper will have a total of 180 MCQs each with four options from the subjects – Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Total time allotted for the examination will be 180 minutes (3 hours).

Subjects ·         Physics
·         Chemistry
·         Biology (Zoology and Botany)
Number of questions 180 (45 questions from each section)
Duration 3 hours (180 minutes)
Marking Scheme ·         4 marks for each correct answer
·         -1 for each incorrect answer.

Subject-wise number of questions and marks break-up

Subject Number of Questions Marks
Physics 45 180
Chemistry 45 180
Botany 45 180
Zoology 45 180
Total 180 720

The difficulty of the questions in NEET 2017 is expected to be uniformly distributed across the three subjects covering the entire spectrum of concepts in them. As per the general trends suggested be previously held AIPMT, physics tends to be more tedious due to complicated and lengthy calculations. Practice problems with time-bound deadlines to overcome the fear of tedious calculations, never refer a calculator. Chemistry and biology are more towards the conceptual side and theoretical questions can be expected. A strong hold on the concepts of general organic chemistry will be helpful in both chemistry as well as biology.

For NEET 2017, neither the pattern has changed nor is the syllabus, the only thing that has changed is its name! The concepts will continue to be same and the students will be tested for these concepts. NEET 2017 is fast approaching, now is the time to burn the midnight oil.
