Sh. Rakesh Kumar Sharma is the current Deputy Mayor of Shimla city. He represents the Panthaghati ward in Municipal Corporation Shimla. Born in Lohara Village of Una district in Himachal Pradesh, he has been residing in Kasumpti, Shimla since years. He has been an active dedicated worker of Bharatiya Janta Party for the past 38 years and had been serving as the District Executive member of the party until he was dismissed from the party on 11th June 2017. Being sure about his victory based on the love and support he received from the locals, even after having been denied a ticket by the BJP, he contested the Municipal Corporation Shimla elections as an independent candidate.
He secured victory in the recently held MC elections be defeating the nearest contender by 45 votes. BJP realized his importance at the time when in the 34 member house, BJP missed the majority mark by just one seat. Top BJP leaders rushed his house soon after the result declaration to convince for joining the party again. He was welcomed back into the party fold with red carpet.
Given the important key to power which he holds in the present scenario, Rakesh is all set to be the next Deputy Mayor is Shimla city.
